A crescent-shaped lake was left behind when the Ilrek River changed course slightly, long ago. The trees thin out somewhat here, creating a region of dappled shadows and small clearings. Pond creatures like fish and frogs can be found here, and the water draws in many other animals.

The pines grow thick and tall here, blocking out much of the sunlight. The snow falls thick in these woods during the winter, but deer, small prey, and birds are common.
